Yowza Navarre is the fifth in the line of 6 current elliptical trainers from Yowza Fitness, and is the top of their standard ellipticals. We have reviewed the Largo, Sanibel, Pompano and Captiva.
How does the Yowza Navarre compare to the other ellipticals in the Yowza Fitness line?

With four models of ellipticals, the Yowza Fitness Navarre is just one model above the Largo, which is the entry level, standard motion elliptical trainer on offer from the company. In case you have not read the Yowza Captiva review posted under “best elliptical trainer” here, the Captiva takes the cake.
Both Captiva and Sanibel have what is called “Cardio Core” motion, so that the handles sway from side-to-side, working your core. To learn more, read our reviews (first paragraph links, or the header of the site).
What features does the Navarre elliptical trainer have?
Despite the fact that the Yowza Navarre doesn’t have this cardio core elliptial feature – it still provides a robust total body workout. As an elliptical trainer, it is very smooth and does not feature the weakness that rollers represent.
Most ellipticals, even in this price range (it is a mid-range elliptical in terms of price, still under $2,000 and there is a discount code, a.k.a. a coupon, at the end of this review), feature rollers which always need to be lubricated. Eventually, roller-oriented ellipticals end up squeaky.
What about the stride length?
If you read our Elliptical Exercise Machine page, where we discuss a number of features of finding a great elliptical trainer, we talk about stride length.
The Yowza Navarre provides a truly smooth ride, without rollers, and the stride length is 20″ long. This is a comfortable stride, but not our ideal length.
It does not come with a variable stride feature, unlike the Schwinn 460 elliptical or the Yowza Captiva elliptical trainer.
At 20 inches, we would have loved for just an inch or two more to make it perfect (one of our opinions is that an optimal stride length for Americans is typically 21″) – but the one inch will only be noticed by those over six feet.
Perhaps if you are used to using an elliptical trainer that has a longer stride, and you are going all out (and are limber that way), then you might reconsider upgrading to Sanibel at least, if not the Captiva or Schwinn 460.

Total Body Workout?
Does the Yowza Navarre elliptical provide a total body workout? Yes, it does – but the arms are standard arms found on many high quality ellipticals. They move in a standard motion, without the Cardio Core feature we love on Sanibel and Captiva.
Despite this, you can expect a full workout that will provide an increase in burning calories as well as increasing your metabolism.
Yowza Navarre iPod Docking Station
As you can see from the picture below, the Navarre elliptical features an iPod docking station (score!), and the speakers are great for when you work out. We don’t think it’s a stereo system exactly, but the speakers aren’t chintzy, they’re hi-fi.
Thankfully the Yowza Navarre is near SILENT.
If you live in an apartment – this elliptical is not going to disturb your neighbors nor get in the way of your music you will be listening to.
Like all Yowza ellipticals, it’s easy to MOVE.
Just in case you need to move your elliptical into and out of a room, to make room for a guest visiting or some other event, it is easy to move using the forward wheels. Here is a picture taken from the video above.
How is the display on the Yowza Navarre?
See the screen shot for more of an idea. More than the cool-looking display, though – it’s easy to understand once you begin using it. It might take a week tops, but the two tiers of the display separate your information nicely, unlike some models where we were simply confused.

What programs and settings does the Yowza Navarre provide?
This LCD console is pretty clear to understand, not too overwhelming. But the features are solid, there are 9 programs that are built-in. On top of these programs, there are 16 different degrees of difficulty with each, for a total of 144 programs.
Is the Yowza Navarre comfortable? Do the foot pedals “cam” or adjust?
One of the marks of quality to always look for is to inquire about this feature on elliptical machines. Does the cross trainer provide the ability for the user’s feet to remain firmly seated on the pedals?
In the case of the Yowza Fitness Navarre elliptical trainer, Yes! This elliptical uses the patented Yowza Sure-fit™ system. The pedals are self-pivoting.
The benefit of the Sure-fit™ system is that you will not have the typical pain associated with RSI that can happen with some cheap models. It does not happen to everyone, but like Carpal Tunnel or other repetitive stress injuries, or those with arthritis, having this technology in place ensures less impact and strain on your joints.
Especially if you like to use the elliptical trainer you own for its intended purpose: cardiovascular health, increased stamina, and a full total body workout that can fit into anyone’s schedule.
Yowza Navarre braking system
Another main component of buying an elliptical is to make sure the brakes are quality. The best braking system in the market today (2011) are electromagnetic brakes, and that is the kind of braking system on the Navarre, Sanibel and Captiva.
The Largo uses a Servo Motor – and for that, is a bit louder than the other 3 machines in the line. The benefit of electromagnetic brakes is that they will last longer, and provide a constant motion in the elliptical motion of the workout.
The old method used to be a counterweight system in the flywheel, using the inertia of the user to provide a sense of resistance. The problems were that the motion was not smooth, unlike the electromagnetic (top of the industry) resistance.
Type of motor on the Yowza Navarre
This is a rear-drive elliptical, so it is designed to be more of a running type, or walking machine. For stair-stepping, your best bet is the Schwinn 460, which is front-drive and offers variable stride (one of our favorite models, read our review to discover why).
Incline technology
Unlike some brands, Yowza uses a rampless technology in order to provid an incline to the workout – the robotic welded steel frame is designed to hold up to 331 pounds, and do so with stability. Other machines will actually use an incline – and this is simply hoakey, and risks stability in many cases.
What is the warranty on Yowza Navarre?
In typical Yowza Fitness, “We want to dominate our market” fashion – they have pioneered not only great technology and patents but they are also pioneers of great customer service. Their warranty is:

- 5 Years on Parts
- 5 Years on Electronics
- 2 Years Extended Warranty Thrown in for Home Labor!
Customer service like this is unheard of in this market, especially in durable goods of this caliber. Most companies tend to be bottom line focused, but not Yowza Fitness. They are an upstanding example, in this reviewer’s eyes, of how to do business right and win loyal customers.
Assembly Tip!
During assembly, make sure you do not tighten the screws fully until final assembly. This part of the manual has frustrated a few people, but it’s also a bit of common sense when you’re a gearhead like the editor of this site.
For many, tightening the screws too much up front will make you want to pull your hair out once at the last step. If you are wondering what we think – we think you should spend a couple of hundred more and get the Sanibel.
Why? Because it’s only a couple of hundred more, and it offers a great ab workout. But if you don’t want to work your abs that focused as you use your elliptical trainer, and prefer the standard motion elliptical machines – you won’t be disappointed.
The Navarre is solid, smooth, durable and quiet with a feature set that is robust. It’s perfect for those who want a workout, maintain fitness and lose weight. (We just like multi-functional features, it’s just a matter of opinion and preference, though.)
